Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 | Laptop reviews | No Comments
HP will be soon rolling out 2 new business model in laptops, EliteBook 2530p and 2730p. These models as per configuration seem quite suitable for business people who want small size and less weight. HP has announced that it will roll these models early September. Elitebook 2530p is about 3 pounds and has extended battery life feature while 2730p is a tablet-based touch screen laptop weighing 3.7 pound and is quite ultra-thin model. Price of Elitebook 2530p will be $1500 while that of 2730p would be $1670. Both these models will be aimed at business users who travel a lot and HP has also kept in mind the competition it faces off from other players like Dell. Dell Studio 15 laptops were also recently rolled out by them in market.
Netbook prices already falling !
Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 | Laptop reviews | No Comments
Although netbook haven’t yet much come in market and before that, prices of netbook have started decreasing. The first one to do was Acer which cut the rpice of its $400 netbook to $350. The word is competition faced by other major players like lenovo, HP, etc. Netbooks are laptops used for only primary purpose like checking e-mails or doing basic stuff. Netbooks are smaller in size than laptops. The prices i suppose will still fall up to $300 and maybe $250 during holidays and occasions. $250 netbooks is something that will create history.
Lenovo enters Netbook market with Ideapad S10
Monday, August 18th, 2008 | Laptop reviews | 4 Comments
Netbook. Yes, it isn’t spelling mistake. Netbook is a type of Notebook PC which performs simple tasks or rather primary tasks rather than heavy tasks for which we use mainstream models. Or you can even call it Sub-Notebook. Latest news is that lenovo is entering ‘Netbook’ market by releasing Ideapad S10. This can be used to perform simple tasks like checking mails, hear your favourite songs and running some basic applications. You maybe surprised that worldwide demand of Netbooks is high and is estimated to be nearly 9.2 million by 2012. So lenovo also doesn’t want to miss this chance.
Configuration - Lenovo Ideapad S10 will come with 10.2″ screen, has Wi-Fi and express card slot if you want to have high speed connectivity of Wi-Fi while on move. Amazingly it also has 4-in-1 multi card reader and inbuilt webcam. Also option of ‘One Key rescue system’ data recovery in case of system error or virus occurs. Lenovo has tried to reduce heating on bottom and palm (Key areas). Option of upgrading RAM upto 2 GB will be available hopefully and battery life will be 3-cell (3 hours) and 6-cell (6 hours). Various colour options in lenovo will also be available. India will have an option of 9 inch screen also.
Processor - Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz. Options you have in models :
1. 80 GB and 512 RAM
2. 160 GB and 1 GB RAM.
These Netbooks are expected to come in to market by October 2008 and will be available for about $400. Chinese will have these models in september. Lenovo is going to face competition from Asus Eee PC 901 but as far i see, lenovo is giving excellent configuration for pretty good price.
Asus Eee PC 901 $600 6-cell Battery Review
Monday, August 18th, 2008 | Laptop reviews | 4 Comments
Asus laptops are also nice but still many people are unaware of this brand and for that reason alone Asus should focus of creating its brand value.
It has Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor
. 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 400 MHz. This configuration seems outdated for sure. 12 GB solid state Hard drive and Intel 945 express chipset for graphics. 9 inch screen and wide screen with TFT.
Priced at around $600. You will find this piece in pearl white colour weighing just 2.5 lbs. It also has Blue tooth. Has integrated 1.3 MP web cam. OS - MS Win XP Home edition. Battery is 6-cell lithium ion battery and estimated, runs about nearly 8 hours (Pretty good). Well, you would better look for Dell or HP laptops than this one.
Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 Review
Sunday, August 17th, 2008 | Laptop reviews | No Comments
Toshiba satellite A135-S4527 is a general model which now according to today’s time when other laptops like Dell Inspiron 1525 and Gateway t-6836 are present, is not preferable.
Processor - Intel Dual core 1.73 GHz
1 GB RAM, 120 GB HDD and comes Pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium.
DVD writer/player and importantly 15″ TFT screen. Intel GMA95o graphics. 4 USB 2.o ports. Also has 5-in-1 card reader. Supports Wi-Fi. Other accessories like microphone and speakers, etc. are present.
Unfortunately battery life is not so good. Although laptop is quality build and doesn’t heat much either. The TFT screen shows a bit of glare which i don’t like as its not good for eyes. One thing is Dual core are less preferred over core 2duo, the latest technology. Any moderate computer user can go for this one.
Price - $800-850.
HP Pavilion dv6985se review

Today i would review model dv6985se in HP pavilion series.
Price - $1000
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0GHz, 4 GB RAM at 667 MHz and Hard drive of 250 GB at 5400 rpm. It has Intel GMA X3100 Graphics card. graphics card memory - 128 MB.
Screen size of 15.4″ size. Comes with Windows vista Home premium 64-bit OS. Other features like DVD writer, 3 USB slots (This model has 3 USB 2.0 slots), headphone/microphone socket and multi-format card reader are also present. Supports Wi-Fi. I suppose it doesn’t have bluetooth. Stereo speakers.
Main advantage is 12 cell battery life which gives excellent good battery life. The design is sleek and has media controls. Weighs around 3.25 Kg. (The battery adds much to weight). Speakers are not that good either as they produce a bit of treble sound.
Or if you want to go for 14″ screen and good configuration, go for Gateway t-6836 laptop.
$100 laptop dream
Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 | Tech news | No Comments
Laptops are getting cheaper and cheaper day by day, but not as cheap as $100. Although, non-profit US organization OLPC - ‘One laptop per child’ is working towards research of this so that they can give these cheap laptops to third world countries. OLPC has backing of giants like google, eBay, Microsoft, AMD, Red hat, etc. I don’t understand why you actually form organization on pre-stage. People are working hard to create things cheaper and i see no way OLPC making this process faster. Its useless to form OLPC. Let the first $100 laptops be developed and then form organization. Although efforts are there in this direction to make these $100 laptops and everything right from screen to RAM to hard drive would be compromised (its natural for $100).
I suppose it will take another half decade for $100 laptops to come into existence. At present, cheapest laptops are available at $500.
Quad Core Processors in Laptops
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 | Laptop reviews | 2 Comments
I am awaiting Quad core processors in laptop. We have Core 2Quad in desktops, available in less than $900 easily. It is expected to have these processors available in laptops soon, maybe in coming processor change in few months. But i suppose they should be bit costly in the beginning and prices would cool down gradually. Someone told me today that main reason of prices of laptops and desktops or rather computers is for invention of technology like dual core, Athlon, etc. rather than their parts value. That’s something worth thinking (and believing !)
HP Pavilion dv2945se Review
Sunday, August 3rd, 2008 | Laptop reviews | 3 Comments
HP pavilion series is quite famous in HP laptop brands. Today i would review pavilion dv2945se.
Processor - 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60, badluck not Intel because comparatively Intel is faster than AMD. ( I suppose laptops should have Intel only, rarely anyone has it for gaming.).
4 GB RAM, OS - Windows Vista. 14 inch TFT screen.
320 GB hard drive. Graphics is Nvidea GeForce 7150M.
This model has shortcut buttons too for media controls, no matter its 14.1 inch. optical sensitive mouse. Weight is 5.4 pounds. Not that light either.
Stereo speaker and 4 USB ports and microphone plugin and microphone jacks. Battery life of about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Starting Price - $ 700. (This can go up to $850)
Considering the configuration of this model, there are several other models worth considering. HP pavilion dv2945 isn’t much preferred. For e.g they should have instead had Intel Core 2Duo rather than AMD because AMD is slower than Intel. Instead i would recommend students to go for Dell inspiron 1525.
Dell Inspiron Series 1525 Rocks
Thursday, July 31st, 2008 | Laptop reviews | No Comments
Dell inspiron 1525 models are the best laptop models, both model and configuration wise. One of my friend wanted to buy a dell laptop and what we finally hit upon was Dell inspiron 1525 model priced at INR 36000 (US $850) which had the best of configuration and fitted his budget perfectly. But unfortunately dell had stopped producing that model. Dell has policy of producing certain no. of models only and you wont get that model after all of those have been sold out. That sucks because few of your favourite models won’t be available after few months. yeah, quite true. My model wont be available after 3 months here. I have Compaq presario 773tu model and my dealer says it would be tough to get 773tu after few months.
