No 3G in India, its 1G in iPhone

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 | Laptop reviews | No Comments

Although Apple iPhone has been launched in India with expensive plans and even expensive handsets, bad thing is there is no facility currently provided by Airtel or vodafone for 3G services. You will be getting only 1G and nothing else. Plus i have heard that if you buy your it from US, some apps wont work in India and only thing you can do is make calls and no blue tooth of SMS. Isn’t that weird ? Its the only gadget i like. Seems i will now go for Sony ericsson which i can get good for $250 here. The new Chinese mobiles in market also seem fantastic. They are cheap and durable also. Not bad for price they give.

Buying iPhone from US

As Iphone is launched in india with exaggerating plans and prices, i am now going to buy iPhone from US. I will just unlock it anyhow and get the local SIM and enjoy the features. Airtel and Vodafone are selling locked iPhone with their SIM, means you cannot make their sold pieces with other network providers. Apple India sucks !

Apple iphone price in India

Thursday, August 21st, 2008 | Tech news | 3 Comments

Bookings of much awaited Apple iPhone have already started with advance as Rs. 10,000 ($250). The price of 8 GB piece is Rs. 31000 ($710) while that of 16 GB is Rs. 36000 ($ 826). The delivery of phones will start from 22 nd of August. Now this is simply what i call as fraud and cheating and ‘looting’. How can you sell a $200 piece at $700. Airtel and vodafone seems to make money out of curiosity of people to try iPhone. This is one of the reasons india is backward. While the fact is that there is not much price difference between 8 GB and 16 GB model. People would better buy Blackberry phone for Rs. 23000. Plus if you buy iPhone, there are no unlimited plans for 3G and it is purely depended on usage and its priced sky high for usage of 1 MB as Rs. 5. Plus some other charges of plans you choose. So iphone finally isn’t worth buying officially from India. I suppose i will get one from US soon. Even N series of Nokia isn’t bad.

Apple Iphone Coming To India Soon

Thursday, August 7th, 2008 | Tech news | No Comments

Its just matter of several weeks now when Apple in collaboration with Bharti Airtel will officially launch Apple iphone. The bad news is that Airtel intends to sell iphone at Rs. 24000 ($600). This news has made me depressed because i was planning to buy a piece for Rs. 8000 as heard by the rumors. The talks of providing 3G aren’t clear yet with spectrum allocation process is still under review by Indian government and a lot of politics in being played lately. Airtel wishes to launch iphones before Vodafone does. Whats iphone without 3G ? Business users having blackberry wont be much shifting to iphone, and actually iphone is nothing but fascination, more for teens. Business users are less likely to go for iphone because blackberry works best. The launch of iphones can be probably done in a months time. Oh god, foreign gadgets in India still suck !

Apple Iphone in India

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 | Tech news | 1 Comment

I am waiting for much awaited Apple iphone to officially launch in india. Apple iphone will be launched by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone. I suppose Airtel first announced about its collaboration with Apple in india and it should be first to launch iphone here, before vodafone does. The 3G service in iphone would be better offered by vodafone and airtel and rumors are that it would be quite costly (That’s how companies in India make money).

Although you can get iphone if you badly need it, from some shops in New Delhi, kolkata, bangalore and Hyderabad, but that’s underground and not official or you can even get unlocked one from ebay. You will find many resellers of iphone but they are all illegal means and you need to watch out for that. Or you can buy officially unlocked version of iphone in France and just replace the SIM card with your local provider. Nothing is known whether vodafone or airtel may give 3G service and if they do give, they would be limited to metro cities for time being.

The price would be around INR 8000-8500 (US $ 200). India has growing user base of geeks and people like cheap things which are multi-functional. So what can be better than iphone only. Damn ! Is it gonna come soon or shall i have it unofficially ?
