I got this COFE 1701 error which prevented me from accessing my email.
Called AOL Technical Support as this was happening on more than 1 computer. They talked me through my router settings (connect to your router using an IP address)
and I went into:
Advanced Settings
Wan Setup
and then changed the MTU number to 1450.

This worked and all is OK now.

Not sure if this will work for you but worth a try.

Same situation for me, here I am on hold (10 mins so far) waiting for AOL help (ha ha) to sort out this neverending problem. What on earth is going on? AOL / Talktalk customer service is very bad, not helped by the fact that the person I am speaking to clearly has no idea what he’s talking about.

It’s 10.30 am 7.10.09 I can’t access AOL webmail with Error Code: C0FE1701 showing…what’s up with this? You’d think AOL would at least put something on their homepage to let us know they are dealing with this widespread (it seems) problem. October 7, 2009

I too am in London and have just come off the phone to AOL tech support – they tell me it will take about another hour/hour and a half to put right. No explanation as to what exactly has gone wrong except that their email servers are ALL down. It’s now 1105 which means we’ve already lost at least 2 hours of worktime. Was told (insultingly I think) that if I had a business account then things would be different – in other words a residential account is regarded by AOL as a second-rate one. For goodness sake, do they think we are all morons?

My apology for overreacting too negatively or being paranoid about it, but, could someone be up to something? Is there any reason that someone in a position to do so might want to temporarily stop an individual, or selected individuals, from accessing our email accounts? Affecting multiple users would camouflage the selection of targeted individuals. Do we all have something in common? Are we of any common political leanings/persuasions? Are there any of us someone might want to silence?…

What’s the point of saying the same thing as everyone? I can’t access my emails either, same error number as everyone else, I really wonder what AOL’s developpers are paid for…..it’s been going on for more than one year and still no solution? Aren’t AOL supposed to be one of the most powerful trust in this world..?
Real shame to have so many unsatisfied customers, don’t you think?
It might be time for action…

David
October 7, 2009

Same thing this is one of my business accounts but I hear AOL has a lot of trouble. Can’t talk to a person in this world anymore, all computerized krapp. Well we see how many days this takes. Same thing with Verizon right now they can’t get an order straighten out for 6 weeks. It’s so sad. But what can you do, so bigger the company so more they have the freedom to do what ever they want and if they go down well we can give them some money.Something wrong with this picture.

David

Jaydee
October 7, 2009

AOL basically needs a good boot up the backside and needs to go back to focussing on it’s paying customers.

Having been with aol for 12 years I have seen a massive decline in their service over the past year or two. Come on AOL, I know your watching…so sort it out!

Janine F
October 7, 2009

Tried Thunderbird as suggested above but it times out before it can get the e-mails. Not sure if I set it up right. I did put aol as the server. Everything seemed to download fine. Perhaps they are having trouble with aol too.

AOL should put updates on their homepage but in all my years with AOL they seem so scared to admit a problem let alone keep anyone informed.

October 7, 2009

If anyone from AOL is reading this: it would be a nice touch of customer service to post a notice on the main AOL page next time explaining you’re experiencing problems, to minimise panic and frustration at your clients’ end. Not getting access to your emails is annoying enough, but AOL’s total lack of info makes it 10 times worse…

Frank
October 7, 2009

Well, I guess it’s slowly going back to normal. But it has been impressive to see how a few hours of email blackout have caused quite an international community to gather at this forum to exchange some news. It’s somewhat comforting to see that you are not alone with your problem… :-)
Cheers and good luck with your mails !!!

Same here, it worked perfectly this morning but now I can’t access my e-mail account, I keep getting the C0FE2305 error code.

I tried to access my account via 3 different versions of the webmail ( aol.fr, aol.uk and aol.de ) but neither would let me access my mail, I got the same error code each time.

April
May 7, 2010

I am getting a different error code it’s giving me Error Code: C0FE2305 Report ID: 30483-webmail-20100507-113540. Can you tell me what this means and when it might be fixed? I’ve had this email acct for years and I do a lot of important business sending and recieving of emails through this acct. I hope it’s fixed ASAP!!! Thanks….

If you go to the aol.ca Canada site, you will at least see who is emailing you and you can respond via other email service. This stinks, though, I feel your pain everyone.

Matt
May 7, 2010

I tried aol.ca, but I didn’t work, I get the exact same message :(

However I have noticed it seems to come back from time to time, I was able to access my mail about 10 mn ago… But now I get the error code again, I hope this will be fixed soon, it gets really annoying.

Jane Noe
May 7, 2010

I am getting error code cofe2305 when I try to get into my aol mail. What’s wrong?

Matt
May 7, 2010

Jerry Kelly: The problem must be from AOL, as far as I’m concerned it becomes available again from time to time, I’ve been able to access my account again for about half an hour so I thought the problem was solved, but now I’ve got the C0FE2305 error again… I don’t know what they are waiting for to fix this but it gets really irritating…

Rhonda
November 11, 2010

I keep getting “an error ocurred while trying to retreive your messages, please try again” message. I have not been able to get my mail for 4 dasys now. What can I do? This is terrible.
