The relation between Nanotechnology and Laptops

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 | Nanotechnology | No Comments

Nanotechnology as i have said earlier is one of the science that will almost everything in the world. Coming to changes that nanotechnology can make in PC’s, to say the least that it would be making laptops more faster with much more battery life. Small battery size but hours and hours of battery life, throw your laptop and it wont crash due to durability and hardness of material. More durable and longevity parts. Less power consumption. Reduced size of the body and of course no sticking out of batteries from sideways in your laptop. Maybe the screen is so thin that you can use it for cutting your birthday cake :) There is a lot more that nanotechnology can change in laptops.

Tesla Motors Opens New Showroom

Sunday, July 20th, 2008 | Nanotechnology | No Comments

I wrote about Tesla motors few days ago, a new automobile start up funded appro. $150 million by people like Sergey Brin, Larry Page and CEO of Paypal has opened its second grand showroom at Menlo park. This Menlo park showroom is near Stanford university and near Downtown Palo Alto. The showroom is grand but these electric car manufacturers have still kept. The interior of the showroom is magnificent apart from sexy looking cars. The electric cars are kept in show. If you want to book your electric Tesla motor, you will currently need to pay $5000 as advance and later $55000 more. the base price currently is around $110000 (2009 model while 2008 model is $98000) ($ weakened by crisis). The cars are just gorgeous but its production rate is quite low currently, its 4 motors per week and they are planning to boost it up by 40 motors a week by next year. About more than 1000 people are in waiting. So if you are planning to buy Tesla car, just make sure you are ready to wait for actually min. 15 months for delivery !

Tesla motors reviews

Sunday, July 6th, 2008 | Nanotechnology | No Comments

I got some links from where you all can read reviews of Tesla motors:

Tesla motors reviews from gizmodo.

Tesla motors is also signed deal with Mercedes Benz which states that Tesla motors would supply them lithium ion batteries for Mercedes electric cars which would later roll out. Developing batteries for electric run cars is pretty complicated and resource heavy process and Tesla is much ahead in development of this field compared to other players. So Mercedes would be buying batteries from Tesla.

Electric run cars would get good benefits from state tax wise and that’s what governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced for Tesla motors. Even john McCain i suppose told that he would reduce taxes or give benefits for ZEV (zero emission vehicles). So first shop (dealership) has been opened in California by Tesla motors. Elon musk said that as base price is currently around 1 lac dollar which is quite costly, they are working on $30,000 electric run car.

Tesla motors

Going green is the ‘mantra’ of today’s start up and one such leading start up is Tesla motors. Petrol and diesel pollute our environment upon the fact that crude oil is above $ 144/ barrel. So electric cars are the obvious choice. But you would argue that they look rubbish with no style and have no speed and acceleration compared to petrol run cars upon the fact that they have too complex machinery. But wait, hold your breath because i am going to show you some exotic car which will just keep your eyes wide open .

Its stylish, sleek and sexy and looks sizzling hot sports car.

Torque power stable at even 13,000 rpm. High acceleration

Its even got stylish interiors, fully flexible and luxurious leather made with various tones and shades. The car is run fully on electricity, although some techniques of driving would be a bit different from normal but its surprising and stunning at performance wise. Its got whole bunch of security factors. safety measures in terms of preventing accidents, tyre types, etc. have been taken in notice. A special coating on windshield to prevent UV and infrared rays to keep car cooler and what not. It seems guys at Tesla have left no stone unturned to make this a dream car for near future. Its got SAFE lithium ion battery to charge.

Its complete technical aspects can be viewed here.

0-60 mph in less than 4 sec !

What Tesla motors say is that this way they would also be reducing US dependency on foreign countries in oil imports.

well, in beginning only rich could afford who really love going green but i suppose company will later on roll out alternatives for common man plus variety in cars will also increase with time. The price would be around $1,00,000 in beginning. Google’s larry page, sergey brin and even Elon musk of paypal have invested in this project.

Need for alternate fuel cars

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 | Nanotechnology | 2 Comments

The need for alternate source of energy is increasing with rise in crude oil and decreasing fossil fuels upon the fact that how much harm they cause to earth. Scientists have several great ideas in place of petrol and diesel to run cars.

Hydrogen : Hydrogen has the max. calorific value. Plus on combustion it would produce water (hydrogen + oxygen will give water). But hydrogen possess explosive nature and that is one of the biggest drawback. Combustion under controlled conditions can make some possibilities.

Alcohol : Even alcohol can be used but there are several small technical limitations for this.

Bio-diesel : Bio-diesel is what many are eyeing on in near future. But its under development phase still. Plus with huge population, we will need surplus crop of Bio diesel and hardly any space would be left to grow other ingredients and food items.

Other is electric run cars. The problem is that we dont get required speed in electric run cars but now we would get that speed and style both, very soon. Also production of mass electricity is other problem. I suppose the new auto battery innovation should have large amount of power storage feature too. I will write about one company which will soon roll out stylish electric run cars soon.

$300 million prize for Auto battery innovation

Monday, June 23rd, 2008 | Nanotechnology | 1 Comment

This are some shocking but true and breaking news - Someone who can create a most innovative Eco-friendly auto battery that will overtake all existing technologies in field of electricity would be awarded $300 US million by US government if McCain comes to power, as proposed by republican senate McCain. But wait, wait, not so easy money guys, the new economical auto battery should deliver power at 30% than current costs and its size and capacity should be worthwhile. McCain says he wants to break the oil dependency from foreign countries (fact is that US is itself sitting on huge oil reserves that it will only use when other countries oil reserves extinguish). This huge prize is worth. I still remember McCain’s interview in which he said that he really presses on the matter of CO2 emissions and global warming and is all geared up to do something for this cause, but also mentioned at India and China should also co-operate in this matter. McCain stresses on the importance of carbon free world and he does realize the importance and need to pollution free atmosphere. Also he would like to give credits to car makers for making such zero pollution free cars or hybrid cars.

Oil prices are rising at fast pace with crude oil at $140/barrel. Plus there has been problems between US and OPEC (middle east especially). Bush is actually backed up by large coal firms ( exxonmobil ?), so i cant see any action towards pollution free world from him. Plus one thing what i liked about McCain is that he stated that he would like to remove the ban on  offshore drilling to reduce dependency on other countries. At this point, Obama opposes this removal of ban. Why does federal impose ban and not let their oil wealth flow in their own nation. Why waste your currency ? US’s policy on energy dept. is really not healthy one nor beneficial for the state.

Need for alternate energy increasing

Monday, June 23rd, 2008 | Nanotechnology | No Comments

We badly need some reliable and specially pollution free and Eco-friendly source of energy. Coal, crude oil pollute our environment very much and this causes several long terms diseases to mankind. IIM (Indian institute of management) has also launched a new course on ‘Carbon market’ which involves management of carbon in corporate world and all that stuff. Coal will exist still 250 years will petrol is expected to stay still 15 -20 years. Electricity is one such thing we can depend upon in long term but we need some permanent facility for production of large electricity at cheap cost, especially with development and research in nanotechnology in electricity field.

Who is investing more in nanotechnology ?

Monday, April 28th, 2008 | Nanotechnology | No Comments

Figures show that European countries (mainly UK ?) are investing almost twice than US in nanotechnology risk research. Many research projects are funded by the government and quite a bit by private players too (that is for commercialization). More details here. US is taking note of this and its House of Representatives of science committee would make sure that they spend 10 % of science research funds on nanotechnology research, that is about $150 millions annually.

Nanotechnology products entering market at fast pace

Monday, April 28th, 2008 | Nanotechnology | No Comments

Every week, 3-4 nanotechnology products are coming in the market. For e.g in Nanowhitening toothpaste made up of calcium peroxide. Also people are slowly becoming aware of using nanotechnology products for their benefits. A large part of nanotechnology discoveries is related to health and several fitness and health cosmetics are coming up in market.

In 2006 - Nanotechnology used in $50 billion worth goods

Estimation of 2014 - Nanotechnology will be used in $2.6 trillion worth manufacturing goods. (15 % of total world’s Good’s production ! )

Still, not many people even in US are much aware about this, very few to say. It’s just the tip of iceberg, wait and watch the rest of matter soon. I am sure the no. of nanotechnology products entering the market every week will rise with time soon.

Nanotechnology should define Eco-friendly principles

Sunday, April 27th, 2008 | Nanotechnology | No Comments

Firstly, nanotechnology is currently in the development phase and it has already given glimpses of potential future benefits that it can make happen but it sure does show some serious limitations. One limitation ABOVE all that we shouldn’t forget that nanotoxic can be fatal and even improper application of nanotechnology in humans can create serious disorders and deaths too. This is what material scientist at Oregon university, Jim Hutchison has to say to all nanotech developers.

At this stage ( this is the beginning ), involvement of nanotech with organisms is very complex. It isn’t something like sure shot. It has shown variability and uncertainty (you may even call it astonishment) in its experiments. So, this urges nanotech scientists to have a definite approach to nanotech research. They can’t conduct experiments haphazardly. They need to go in order and with certain rules and regulations. We surely don’t want to come to a danger point in this research where we can’t turn back. ‘Prevention is better than cure’ ( although, cure would be almost similar to impossible ).

Nano hazards are unbelievably destructive. Atom bomb can destroy a city, while nano bomb may destroy a whole country ! Hutchison here says one very important point that we need to bring - Eco - in nanotechnology. He said absolutely Right. We need to bring green chemistry in nanotech researches. That environment friendliness is necessary so that it goes in positive direction, or else, it can bring mass destruction, simply like nuclear energy. And one more important point, we need to define nature friendliness in nanotechnology before it goes into mass production (currently as you know, nanotech is in development phase). It’s difficult to make changes after anything goes public at large scale. It’s unstoppable. You can’t change weapons after once you produce them.
